What is SEO, and why do I need it?

Get your potential customers to find and visit your website, build traffic and create an online presence.

SEO is online product placement. It is about getting your potential customers to find and visit your website, building traffic and creating an online presence.

Search engines, such as Google, Yahoo or Bing, read or index websites and store information about them. When you’re searching online, you write a description of what you want, for example, ‘Turkish Restaurants Wellington’. The search engine then returns SERPs (search engine results pages) of websites that are relevant to your search.

SEO is a process of increasing a website’s ranking on a results page. Research has shown that very few visitors move past page one of the search results. So getting your website onto page one of the results is important to being found on the internet.

Good SEO will assess the unique purpose of your website, be it a service, product or information, and consider your audience’s potential queries in search engines. It will result in increased, targeted, interested traffic to your website. SEO, website design and structure need to work together to make your website engaging, interesting and relevant to visitors as well as eliciting an action to achieve ROI or sales.
